May 4, 2006: Today we have a great interview conducted by Ellen Kahn, director of HRC’s Family Project, with Rachel Smith-Mosel, a mom who’s taking a stand in her own community. It’s inspiring listening!
I also talk about my own family’s upcoming move, how our son is taking it, and the news of the day – including my rebuttal to an Advocate editorial that criticized the Lorganized GBT presence at the White House Easter Egg Roll.
As I explain in the show, I’m currently on a low-carb diet that seems to be having a very negative effect on my cognitive functioning, so please excuse me if this isn’t my most coherent podcast!
Thanks to HRC for their sponsorship and thanks to you for listening.

This is my first time listening to your program; I’m the straight mom of a gay son, so all of these issues are in my (hopeful) future as a grandma. However, I’m preparing to do battle with my son’s high school and the district school board about the harassment my son and some of his gay and lesbian schoolmates are experiencing. So I wanted to hear the interview with Rachel Smith-Mosel about her work to ensure equality and fairness for all kids. Kudos to you for such a great interview! I’m going to send the link to the PFLAGschools list and the Safe Schools Coalition. Thanks again!

First time listener, I thoroughly enjoyed the cast. The interview with Rachel was fasbulous. The way in which she explains and speaks is so clear, the work she has done is so necessary and I’m glad she has done it. Early education on diversity and equality will make the future for our children more stable, truthful, and safe. Thanks for the cast, and everyone keep up the good work. -Lisa

Very inspiring pod cast! Excellent! I’m going to be heading down to do some research on my children’s school and also on the city’s public library.. I’m curious.. not attacking but very curious. Where are my kids librarys at? I choose to have a library of queer books for my family to have access to, but I don’t know what’s in the community. Anyways I just thought I would pass along the site address that was announced so very quickly at the end of the pod just in case anyone else wanted it as well, I re-listened just for it, not that I minded it got me all charged up again! http://hrc.org/Template.cfm?Section=Family

It’s wonderful to see parents standing up proud and visible for their children, and their families. Good work and bravo Rachel!!
For every person that stands up, the world is a different and better place. As a teen with two lesbian moms, I can tell you first hand that it will make all the difference for the millions of children in this nation just like me, with lgbt parents.
