i am a single parent of a boy whose father has died . One of my main concerns was if he was going to turn feminine with having two older sisters . All those concerns no longer plague me because as my child no matter what his sexual prefence is as long as he is a decent person and lives life as i have tried to show him to the best of my ability i feel he will grow up to the man i expect him to be, if not more praying, that my life as it was at some point in his life was not as it should have been
will not have some fault with his growth into man hood i hope i can continue to show him and teach him how to be a man not in societies eyes of what a man should be but in the eyes of GOD.

I am raising two boys who have two mothers. I never lied to them about the artificial insemination. It isn't easy in the U.S. It is a harder life here. But they are doing very well under all the discrimination that the US govnmnt has to give. The people in my world, are mostly straight and I can tell you, they really don't care I am gay. They see me and my wife, no different from them. Caring about our children and wanting the best for them.

I will take on any dumb neocon theocon, what have you. As a straight person, I can tell you if one mom can do the job,two can only be better. My son turned out well because he had a parent that loved him and wanted what was best for him. Most of the gay/lesbian couples with children that I have seen are better parents than many straight couples. Less fighting with each other and more cooperation-how on earth could that be bad???

Yes, Jill we have many Canadian couples raising children. We must again be vigilant that Harper and Toews do not invoke the Notwithstanding Clause. Canada does not need another few years of uncertainty. Never again !! Encore jamais !!

Of course, our Stateside neighbours do not have the rights to marry and receive federal benefits as you can in Williams Lake. Cross that international border, and the difference for LGBT persons is the same as the old " slave " and "free" states during their Civil War.

This was by far the best 'quality' show I have heard so far! Keep up the great work and the high quality interviews! I just can't seem to type down the words that can express what your show means to little old me way up here in Canada! Keep up the excellent work! It just seems to get better and better! I'm buying this book!

Williams Lake, BC Canada (yes there are gays and lesbians who are parents even way up here)

Thanks for the thoughtful comment, Raymond. The good thing is that all the poilling of young people shows they are much more progressive on LGBT rights than their parents and grandparents. Maybe in twenty years this will all be less of an issue.

" If not now, when, if not us, then whom". This paraphrase of the RFK quote dates me as a 60 year old Canadian married for nearly three years and after 31 years together. We have raised two children, now adults.

Yes, there is a theocon minority government in Canada that knows it cannot change our Charter rights, and will not have the votes to win a vote without invoking the Notwithstanding Clause which will not be used. We have such a government because pseudo-Liberals won a leadership vote when Chretien retired. They wasted away a majority and then gave the theocons a minority government..

Adoption of children was the theocon strategy in Holland and Belgium. Canada and Spain gave us our adoptive rights upon passing our Marriage Acts. It took five and six years respectively, to have those rights given in Holland and Belgium.
Holland and Spain used another strategy used in Massachusetts, namely, limiting the right of marriage to same-sex couples with one partner either a Dutch or Belgian citizen.

The strategies are global. The Right Wing strategies are used and borrowed where we are concerned. To the moderate haters, the ultimate solution is removal of all rights, parental or otherwise, and the recriminalisation of the sodomy statutes.
The extreme right wing wants legislation that imposes legal penalties for psychosexual expressions of love between couples.

This culture war is being waged before Generation X, Y and Z gain both population majority and political maturity. Only the WWII generation and the Boomers, of which I am a part, can frustrate the gains made for human global equal justice under law.
