February 10, 2006: The new Curious George movie opens this weekend in the US. I’m planning on bringing Sasha. But it turns out the real-life story behind the movie has a tragic gay twist.

Two men have been arrested in connection with the murder of “Curious George” collaborator Alan J. Shalleck.Police charged Rex Ditto, 29, and Vincent Puglisi, 54, early Thursday.

Shalleck’s body was discovered Tuesday morning in the driveway of his Boynton Beach, Florida trailer home by a maintenance worker. The two accused allegedly stole jewelry and cash from Shalleck, who was co-editor of 28 “Curious George” books and co-wrote more than 100 short films about the mischievous monkey.
Although an autopsy has not been completed, investigators said Shalleck, 76, died after being stabbed repeatedly during a struggle with his attackers.

Cops said there is no evidence to suggest Shalleck’s killers forced their way into the trailer. They suggest the three men met through a gay sex service.

Yes, where there’s art there’s gay men. Now, lets hope his killers are brought to justice and not excused with a “gay panic” defense.
