Why Do They Say Such Mean Things About My Parents?
December 7, 2005: As the attacks against us and our famlies continue (have you been reading about the Ford Motor Company caving to the religious right?) The Family Pride Coaltion has just released a free guide to help you talk to your children when they are exposed to hateful invective about thier family. (I usually just tell my son that people who say bad things about us are idiots, but I’m sure Family Pride’s approach is much more helpful and enlightened). This is from Family Pride’s announcement:
FAMILY PRIDE RELEASES “THE FAMILY PRIDE GUIDE TO TALKING WITH YOUR CHILD ABOUT POLITICAL ATTACKS ON OUR FAMILIES”
Family Pride has created this guide to help families meet the needs of their children while facing statewide and federal level attacks on our relationships and our families. The ballot measures, constitutional amendments and other attacks often include a media campaign, and your child(ren) could be exposed to negative images and comments about their family configuration.
Talking about the wave of political attacks on our families and all the issues they can bring up does not necessarily come naturally to LGBT-parents. We hope this guide will give you some additional ideas on how to talk to your child(ren).

Check it out. And be sure to listen to Jennifer Chrisler, Family Pride’s executive director, on my latest show, #13.
