LISTEN TO THE PODCAST HERE

October 23, 2005: Author, columnist and activist Dan Savage joins me for Show #10 with his perceptive takes on family, parenting, and equal marriage. Dan talks about his wonderful new book, The Commitment, which you’ll definitely want to check out after hearing his engaging interview. We chat about his reasons for getting married, despite the initial reluctance of his six-year-old son, who was convinced that two men getting married was tragically icky

As Dan says in the show, every child born or adopted into a loving lesbian or gay couple is a wanted child. “Two gay guys never got drunk and adopted a baby. ”

You’ll also hear why Dan asks if I wear briefs or boxers (it’s not what you think), and what he used to get teased about in school –wanna guess?

Today’s show also tells you how you can win an autographed copy of Arlene Istar Lev’s The Complete Lesbian and Gay Parenting Guide, her comprehensive guide to building and protecting your family. I had wanted to have a drawing for the book, but it turns out that a drawing is a “game of chance” that is illegal in many areas.

So, we’re gonna have a competition. Hundreds of LGBT parents download the show every week, but there are millions of us out there. I need your ideas to help me build the show’s community. So here’s the competition — email your best ideas on how I can promote The Gay Parenting Show to me and I’ll pick the best one (or at least the one which most appeals to me at that moment), as the winner of Arlene’s book. I’ll pick the winner sometime around the middle of November.

Listen to the podcast to hear more details about what constitutes a “best idea” on how to promote the show (here’s a hint – think cheap) and how you can win this autographed book.

Also, will you tell me if you like the idea of winning free stuff through the show? I have some other people who’d like to give you a chance to score some fabulous LGBT parenting goodness, so let me know if you’re into the opportunity.

I also talk about a new way you can find and listen to podcasts through Yahoo Music. You can also review podcasts at the site – maybe you could send some love to The Gay Parenting Show? I sure would appreciate it.

In the news, I cover a recent studies that show that equal marriage helps children, and that LGBT parents are at least as good as straights.

So, please give a listen, and be sure to let me know you what you thought of the show by clicking on the “comments” link below. As always, thanks for joining us.
