LISTEN TO THE PODCAST HERE

August 21, 2005: Today’s show features a great interview with Mark Brown, of The Pop Luck Club. As they say on their web site (and why paraphrase when you can cut and paste?) “The Pop Luck Club is a Los Angeles-based organization of gay dads that is the largest known gay fathers organization in the world, with hundreds of families and continued strong growth. Its mission is to advance the well-being of gay prospective parents, gay parents, and their children. We do this through mutual support, community collaboration, and public understanding.”

Mark’s a very interesting and entertaining fellow, and I really enjoyed our chat. We talked about what the Pop Luck Club does and how you can start a similiar resource in your community. We also gab about our kids, and eventually work our way around to my favorite topic…why gay people are better parents than straights. :)

I also do my usual ranting - this week about coming out my son’s Kindergarten orientation and about the Boston Globe article that asks “What Makes People Gay?”

My son was feeling especially clingy today, so at the end you’ll hear him join me for my goodbye. I even ask him to say the website address. Can he do it? Tune in and find out!

And, as always, thanks for all your kind feedback. Please continue to let me know you’re out there.

Just wanted to drop you a line to show my support and tell you how much I enjoy your podcast. My partner and I live in Atlanta have 2 kids. Without much free time this is a great resource for news and information…

Just wanted to tell you how much I enjoy your podcast. It’s obvious that you put a lot of time and effort into the broadcast. My partner and I live in Atlanta and have 2 small kids. Without a lot of free time, it’s been great to be able to plug into some of the things happening in our community. Keep up the good work!

Hey I’ve been walking around Yarraville this morning listening to your show #6! Brilliant stuff Scott. Seriously. Your story about “coming out” in both ways at Sasha’s kindgarten was very relatable, even to a straight guy. I’m a sober alcoholic who suffers from depression, both genetic conditions and part of who I am, yet whenever I bring up either subject I still feel that momentary twinge of embarassment or something. It’s mostly instinctive, something from deep in our limbic system. Fuck my limbic system, I say. Take me as I am or get the fuck outta my way. I need a t-shirt with that printed on it. I’ll get you one.

We need more LGBT content on TPN. If you know of anyone else who has an idea for a show, tell them to let me know!

And keep up the great work.

    Scott,
I finally listened to your sixth podcast and enjoyed your interview with the head of the Pop-luck club, as well as your story of coming out to the parents of your son’s kindergarten class. You must have been very nervous about sharing since not everyone is fair minded. I also enjoyed hearing Sasha during this broadcast as well as seeing pictures of your family that you recently posted. Keep up the excellent work !
